A Welcome Message from Dean David Van Zandt

Thank you for your interest in Northwestern University School of Law. Welcome to our Web site. Whether you are a prospective student, a current student, or a graduate, I hope you will use this site to learn about upcoming events and about the Northwestern Law Difference. Northwestern Law empowers students to meet the challenges of the complex, competitive, and ever-changing legal and business worlds. Our vision, articulated in our 1998 Strategic Plan, sets a new standard in legal education, and a newly-established Working Group will ensure that our plans and programs remain relevant in the ever-changing marketplace. Using a unique pre-admissions interviewing process, we attract students that have not only strong academic abilities but also strong speaking and writing skills, judgment, maturity, and ambition.

Faculty
We continue to add depth to our already diverse and multifaceted faculty - excellent teachers whose high-quality research impacts leading academic and public policy issues.

Curriculum
Faculty and students have close interactions in courses that provide a strong foundation in legal reasoning and research and also build teamwork and communication skills and cross-train in business.

Community
Students develop supportive, not competitive, relationships with each other and faculty in our small and intimate community that is based on mutual respect for differing ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds.
