Sponsorship Opportunities

Northwestern Law students play an important role in shaping the life of the Law School. The Student Bar Association, the basic student-governing group, gives them a voice in curriculum and administration. In addition, more than 30 student organizations ranging from the Diversity Coalition and the National Lawyers Guild to the Northwestern Law Golf Association and the Single Malt Scotch Club provide outlets for academic and recreational interests.

As a Firm and Corporate Sponsor, you have the opportunity to connect to our diverse student body through a variety of activities including:

Orientation Week

Be one of the first firms to meet incoming Northwestern Law students as an orientation sponsor. Orientation Week features a variety of activities designed to introduce our students not only to law school, but also to the unique community at Northwestern Law. These students are eager to meet the firms who may recruit them in the next few years. First impressions have lasting effects, so take advantage of establishing your name with our students early in their careers. Sponsors will each receive a table at the orientation reception to distribute firm materials, firm logos on signage and T-shirts, listing on the orientation web site, and announcements throughout the week. Orientation Week is an innovative way to introduce your firm to our entering students and reestablish connections with second- and third-year participating in the program.

Lawyer as Problem Solver
Northwestern Law continues to lead the field in innovative education through our Lawyer as Problem Solver program, a mandatory four-session seminar (two in the fall, two in the spring) for first-year students. This program educates students on the tools used by modern lawyers to facilitate problem solving for clients in settings outside the courtroom or boardroom. Sponsoring firms will be identified in all signage and printed materials, and may send firm representatives to meet students and distribute firm materials at the spring reception. Lead sponsors will have the added opportunity of providing a speaker for a Lawyer as Problem Solver luncheon to be held during the first course in the fall semester.

International Team Project
International Team Projects (ITP) combine semester-long research, a two-week field study abroad, and a final group project. Students work in teams with a faculty adviser to study the legal system of a country of interest. They arrange interviews with key players in businesses, justice systems, government agencies, and nongovernmental organizations. The process culminates in a two-week trip to the country of study during spring break, followed by a project presentation to the Northwestern Law community. As an ITP Firm Sponsor, you may send a representative to participate as an ITP Fellow. ITP Fellows participate in the research process and work with students to develop their project between January and March, sharing legal expertise and resources. ITP Fellows will accompany their groups on the research trips. Like the students, ITP Fellows will gain a sophisticated understanding of the role of law and legal institutions from a global perspective, as well as legal, business, and social issues specific to their country of study. Sponsoring firms will be showcased in a reception following the ITP presentations to the Northwestern Law community. In Spring 2005 students will study in China, Italy, Morocco, The Netherlands, Panama, Tanzania and Thailand.

Day at Northwestern Law
Each April admitted students visit Chicago for Day at Northwestern Law, which gives them the chance to meet with current students, faculty, and administrators, as well as potential classmates. As a sponsor of this event, you have the opportunity to meet top tier law students and showcase your firm’s commitment to recruiting at Northwestern Law. Sponsors will receive recognition through printed logos on signage and t-shirts, listings on the event web site, and announcements throughout events. Some speaker opportunities may also be available.

Martin Luther King Day Celebration/DREAM Committee
Each January, Northwestern Law and the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine partner to organize a Martin Luther King Day Celebration. Past key speakers have included musician Stevie Wonder, author Angela Oh, and poet Bryonn Bain. All classes are suspended from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. to honor Dr. King. This event is widely attended each year by members of the Northwestern University Chicago campus community. Sponsors will be recognized on signage and in welcoming remarks at the event.

Other Opportunities
In addition to these opportunities, firms can choose to sponsor events organized by individual student groups such as Public Interest Law Week, Diversity Week, Black History Month, and Latino Heritage Month among others.
